The Media Law Forum organized a discussion forum with journalists and media activists in the Hambanthota district on April 25, 2024. The aim was to provide legal awareness regarding laws pertaining to journalism and the freedom of expression. Fourteen media representatives actively participated in this forum, which was chaired by Attorney-at-Law Viranjana Herath, the chairperson of the Media Law Forum.
The discussion primarily focused on repressive laws such as the ICCPR Act, the Online Safety Act, and Proposed ATA . The participants were encouraged to get rid of the chilling effect created by these laws and were made aware of the Media Law Forum Hotline number.
