Empowering Journalists to Combat Hate Speech

Hate speech poses a significant threat to social cohesion and democratic values in Sri Lanka. Recognizing this challenge, the Media Law Forum, with the generous support of UNESCO, has implemented the project “Strengthening Capacities of Journalists in Using Legal Tools to Address Hate Speech and Call for Law Reforms in Sri Lanka.”

As part of this initiative, we have created two documentaries and six short video clips in English, Sinhala, and Tamil. These resources explore legal provisions addressing hate speech, offer practical approaches to countering it, and emphasize the need for legal reforms to uphold freedom of expression while combating harmful rhetoric.

This project reflects our commitment to empowering journalists, media professionals, and the public with essential knowledge and tools to address hate speech effectively. Accessible in all three major languages, these videos contribute to fostering a more inclusive and respectful society.

We invite you to watch these informative resources and join the movement to combat hate speech and advocate for meaningful legal reforms.
