The Media Law Forum Workshop Explores Collaborative Strategies for Implementing the Online Safety Act

The Media Law Forum hosted an enriching two-day residential workshop at the esteemed Mount Lavinia Hotel, spanning from May 11th to May 12th, 2024. This workshop served as a pivotal platform for media actors and lawyers to delve into the intricacies of the Online Safety Act.

Day one of the workshop featured two distinct sessions tailored to the needs of media actors and lawyers separately. Participants engaged in focused discussions and interactive sessions aimed at dissecting the nuances of the Online Safety Act within their respective professional domains.

On the second day, the workshop pivoted towards fostering collaboration and networking opportunities between media actors and legal experts. This day was dedicated to exploring avenues for synergistic efforts between media actors and lawyers in effectively implementing the Online Safety Act.

Distinguished figures from the legal and media spheres graced the event as resource persons, offering invaluable insights and expertise. Among them were President’s Council Mr. Saliya Peiris, Dr. Thusitha Abeysekara, Attorney-at-Law Thishya Weragoda, Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe, Attorney-at-Law Lakshan Dias, Attorney-at-Law Viranjana Herath, Veteran Journalist Shan Wijetunga,Attorney-at-Law Prabodha Rathnayake Attorney-at-Law Ainkaran Kugadasan, Attorney-at-Law Dilrukshi Hadunnetti, Communication Specialists Omar Rajarathnam and Attorney-at-Law Jayantha Dehiattage.

This dynamic workshop not only provided a comprehensive understanding of the legal framework surrounding online safety but also facilitated meaningful connections and collaborations vital for the effective implementation of the Online Safety Act.
